Things to do near Cheddar with a dog

Planning a dog-friendly trip to Cheddar and looking for inspiration for things to do with your furriest family member? How about starting with a stay in a large, comfortable, open-plan and dog friendly luxury holiday home; Reservoir View is the perfect spot to start a dog-friendly stay, with easy access to National Trust land, lots of easy walks around the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and of course Cheddar Gorge itself.

The house has plenty of space and areas for your dog to run about or relax in the sunshine whilst you take in the stunning views with a glass of something special or just enjoy your morning coffee with your best furry friend sitting at your feet.

When it’s time to get out and stretch all four legs, then head down the hill to Cheddar Gorge and find yourself immersed in the natural beauty of the area. You can find details of the walks locally on the National Trust and Mendip Hills National Landscape websites.

A walk around Cheddar Reservoir means your pet can stay a little cleaner too if the weather isn’t quite playing ball!

After all that lovely fresh air, there are some lovely dog-friendly cafés in Cheddar for a spot of lunch, brunch or just a fresh pot of tea:

Rockface – dog-friendly garden café catering for all dietary requirements with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options plus their award winning cakes!

Edelweiss – lovely family run café with fun and friendly atmosphere and plenty of menu choices for all tastes.

A little further afield is the fascinating Strawberry Line walk and cycle route – perfect for long dog walks exploring the local area, taking in Cheddar, Axbridge, Winscombe, Sandford and all the way to the coast with a café at Yatton to finish in.

If you fancy taking Fido to the beach then Brean Down and it’s amazing views is worth a visit followed by a run on the beach; this is a lovely place to be whatever the weather.

The National Trust have a fabulous website with lots more dog-friendly places to visit in the stunning county of Somerset.

If you fancy going even further afield how about taking the whole family on a Number Seven boat trip on the River Avon and around Bristol harbour. Number Seven is a per-friendly tour company so your furry best friend is welcome aboard!
